~How Often to Meet & for How Long a Period?

I have found that regular appointment times usually work best for both my clients and for myself. I recommend seeing clients once a week as this provides for continuity and consistency, especially in the initial sessions. For reasons particular to them, some clients may wish to be seen more often, and others less often.

I see clients for short, medium, and long term counseling. Clients are usually very aware of what they need and want regarding when to terminate counseling.

~What About the Fee?

I offer a discount off my full fee to all my clients as I do not involve myself in submitting claims for third party reimbursement (such as health care insurance). This in no way prevents clients, who are insured, from submitting claims themselves.

The fee varies depending on the length of the session. Sessions are usually 55 minutes in length for individuals, and 80 minutes for couples (although individuals may also be seen for 80 minutes at times).  Longer sessions are prorated.

More detailed information may be obtained by contacting me.

Payment is expected at the time of the session.

~Regarding Insurance

I have minimized my involvement with the insurance industry due to their frequent lack of regard for clients' privacy, confidentiality, choice of counselor and autonomy in the counseling process.

Healthcare insurance plans which cover outpatient counseling and give clients the option of choosing their “provider” (either by going “out-of-network” or because they have no “provider” restrictions) usually offer reimbursement for counseling sessions with me. They usually require minimal information from counselors about clients prior to reimbursement (for instance a valid diagnosis by the counselor along with other basic information such as “dates and types of services” are always required).

Please be informed about your insurance. If you want to use your insurance, you are strongly encouraged to thoroughly understand your coverage. I will be glad to help you by discussing the questions you need to ask your insurance company.

~Options for Financing Counseling

My clients are self-pay or use insurance that allows them to chose their provider.

Some of my clients, for privacy reasons, will avoid use of their insurance coverage even if it is adequate. Others, will pay out pocket simply because their insurance benefits are inadequate.
